The only instruments used on this record were a tiny Yamaha Portastasound keyboard (£6 on ebay) and an acoustic guitar. I did, however, use some laptop software rather than the 4-track cassette recorder. As a result there’s less singing and proper songs and more messing around.

This EP is called “Music Sounds Better Remixed” and it was released on Labrador Records on 17 May 2011. The EP includes six remixes of the Acid House Kings song “Would You Say Stop?”, which originally appeared on the band’s ace album “Music Sounds Better With You”.

The idea behind the night is, naturally, that people play without any amplification or plugs or anything in a cosy room above a lovely London pub. It’s one of the warmest and friendliest gigs around, although if you haven’t played for two and a half years it’s also slightly nerve-racking, especially as the songs are also recorded for a free podcast.

As host, MJ Hibbett opened the show and was as fun and entertaining, but also in places as heartfelt and beautiful, as ever. There were mass singalongs, shout-out participation, free mince pies and much festive cheer. After that I played a few Christmas songs and a few Sunny Intervals songs that I haven’t played before:

And then Chris T-T played a captivating set to an packed audience including, seemingly, lots of students and young people. Every word was important and every song said something. It was rousing and political in some places and warm and touching in others, and it was such a pleasure to play on the same evening as him and Mark.

It includes an autumnal song with ukuleles, a couple of Christmas songs, a song vaguely set in the winter and a song about the sea that has no connection with autumn or winter! It was recorded, as ever, on a four track cassette player.

These gigs are hosted by the wonderful MJ Hibbett and the idea, as the title suggests, is that everyone plays without amplification or microphones etc. As if that wasn’t scary enough, the gigs are also recorded and released as a podcast later that week. Chris T-T and MJ Hibbett will also be playing on 21 December. As it’s Christmas, I’ll probably play a couple of Christmas songs, a couple of Sunny Intervals songs and maybe a song or two from my other band.

It’s been two-and-a-half years since I last played a gig on my own, so I’d better start practicing! The gig takes place upstairs at The Lamb, on 94 Lamb’s Conduit Street, London WC1N 3LZ. The first act starts at 7.30pm and it’s all finished at a very sociable 9.30pm. These gigs are always very fun and friendly occasions, so I hope you can make it along!

For the first time since 2007, I’m pleased to say there are now a limited number of Sunny Intervals CDs available. I’ve made CDs for the two most recent EPs (Sidewalk Cafe and Obstacles) and the mini-album (Signposts).

The best way to pick one up is to pop along to the Nebraska Pop Festival, where they’ve kindly offered to give some away free on the door. The festival takes place on 15-19 September 2010 at various venues in Omaha, Nebraska in the States.

I’m pleased to say that the Sunny Intervals track ‘Falling By The Side’ appears on a Retrospective Compilation 3 by Series Two Records.

In total there are five different compilations on five different CDs with 118 total song contributions from 118 different artists spanning the world. The compilations in total feature more than 380 minutes of original songs. CD 3, which Sunny Intervals appear on, features 22 artists from Sweden, France, USA, Italy, Spain, Germany and Switzerland, so it’s a very international afffair!

Bands appearing on the CD include The Stowaways, The Blue Chairs, Mais je n’ai pas peur, Los Autofans and Dupont Circles.

The newest Sunny Intervals song ‘As Summer Draws In’ appears on a ukulele compilation from Lost Tape Sounds called Ukulele, Mekulele, Wekulele.

This is the second in a three-part ukulele compilation series from the cassette label and contains 27 tracks, including songs from MJ Hibbett, Jacob Borshard, Hermit Thrushes, Yoyoyo Acapulco, I Hate You Just Kidding, Factors Of Four, and Blanket Truth. It’s limited to 200 copies with Hawaiian blue foil tapes, a handwritten insert and a linoleum-cut block print cover.

It should be called ‘As the summer draws in’, but I made a mistake tagging the initial MP3, then sent it to someone who may use it for something, and then it all became too complicated to change it. There’s a very low attention-to-detail threshold around these parts!
