Counting the days back to you

Take me to the precipice, on a tightrope walk
Hand me all the spinning plates and wheelbarrows you can find
Take me on a rowing boat by the waterfall
Leave me with a single oar to row against the tide

Take me to the seafront lights in a perfect storm
Leave me in the shelter as the waves crash around the promenade
Or a seventies funfair on bonfire night
Gripping the handlebars as the waltzer spins just slightly too fast

And I can’t stop counting the days back to you

I fell in the blink of an eye
Lost in the tick of a metronome
Tripped, fell through a love song and out the other side
As I count to myself
Didn’t notice the dark fall
Tripped, fell through a love song and out the other side

And I can’t stop counting the days back to you
