Hearts

Hearts skip and settle
A Catherine wheel spins in the middle distance
As the wooden soles of beaten shoes
Slip and slide on frost covered pavements

There’s parked cars still covered in snow
I wrote your name on every bonnet
Drew hearts on the hatchbacks
On both sides of the road
A song plays from an open window
Fireworks break on the horizon
And fall in heart shapes
On spectators below

Hearts skip and settle
A roundabout spins empty in the distance
As a cardboard box and polystyrene cartwheel over frost-covered Tarmac

There’s parked cars still covered in snow
I wrote your name on every bonnet
Drew hearts on the hatchbacks
On both sides of the road
A song plays from an open window
Fireworks break on the horizon
And fall in heart shapes
On spectators below
